Letter from Ordinance Author Dixie

...1)
The private home rental initiative is
not connected to the
McLean
lawsuit.
Mr. McLean is, however, one of the few people who is not
afraid to speak out against injustice.
Most people are understandably afraid of retaliation.
You have made the issue personal. It is not.
2) The initiative will not
eliminate a homeowner’s right to rent out their home...

to the Grizzly
|
...From
your July 12 article (PHR Battle Begins in Big Bear), it is clear
that there are significant misperceptions concerning private home
rentals and the proposed initiative... (read

Open Response to Perry from Bob Pool
| ...The
proposed ordinance does NOT eliminate private home rentals. You
would know this if you read it. If you feel the costs, use permit or
some other feature of the measure just will not work than feel free
to contact me and discuss what would work. I'll talk to you... (read

Letter to new city manager from Bob Pool
| I cannot
support a Private Home Rental Ordinance that is not fair and
reasonable. I have supported the currently proposed ordinance with
no better option is sight. Along with the author, I truly expected
some elements would be changed by negotiation...(read

Letter from John Levy
| ...The
rhetoric regarding the Private Home Rental (PHR) issue has gotten
overheated to the point where everything is presented as either
black or white, while as usual the facts are really just different
shades of gray. I’ve read several letters and editorials in
The Grizzly, and each of them seems to ignore valid points made by
the ‘other side’... (read

Letter from Stan Miller
...While
you were city manager, I was a supporter of yours. I thought that
you worked through problems with fair and logical thinking and tried
your best to help bring a positive close to each individual problem
within our city, although THIS problem STILL has not been properly
addressed and continues to plague this city.
I now find you illogical...

Letter to editor (not printed) from Charles Lawrence
...I
wonder if Wheeler or Reid know of ANY vacation rentals built before
1920? You can read up on ACTUAL Big Bear Lake history here:

| ...residents
who received this, were mostly outraged. Nasty words flew through
the air from disappointment on Perry’s letter to words speaking of
prostitution. Telephones rang within the City’s limits, discussing
that Perry was a turn coat, untruthful, scare mongering, and
deceitful...

To others in the lodging Business:
Open Letter from Bob Pool to Lodges
| ...Commercial Lodging in
Big Bear is suffering the lowest occupancies and rates relative to
other prices since I began operating my first lodge in 1980. We are
under attack from nearly every side. We are being supported by
virtually nobody... (read

To County Supervisor Dennis Hansberger who passed a similarly weak ordinance 8/22/06
Letter from Bob Pool
...We
spoke at several planning hearings until we convinced the
commission this ordinance would not protect the neighborhoods or
the visitors. They voted this down (without a quorum).
I know you have personally rented homes up here. You told me your
wife (a doctor?) would not use the spa or the dishes because
they were "not safe". Why then will you approve this
ordinance?... (read

Letter from Dave Lorenzen
| ...all changed earlier
this summer when three new homes were put up for transient rentals
with one of the large resort rental agencies here in Big Bear.
Now, we are in a battle with the rental agency that represents these
three homes in our formerly peaceful and quiet community... (read
